Wardrobe Essentials for the Perfect Spring Capsule

spring fashion essentialsI have to admit, one of the “perks” of loving and feeling comfortable in simple closet staples is that dressing up and putting outfits together comes effortlessly. For some it might seem boring to see you in the same basics but if it makes you feel good then you should definitely not worry. I love how easily they can bring your outfits together and their ability to go from one season to the next, never going out of style.

I’ve come aware of this collection of items and clothes that are absolutely essential in my wardrobe. They each have a purpose, carry from one season to the next, and easily coordinate with the rest and any seasonal additions I make. So, with that in mind, if I had to put together a wardrobe capsule for Spring, this would be the ultimate list of pieces I would include. Twenty two items that will guarantee a variety of outfits, basically, all you need to have this season.

Striped Tee: I just got this tee from Aritzia, and let me tell you, it is THE SOFTEST tee I’ve ever owned. I’m definitely going for another colour combo!

Denim Jacket: A jean jacket is one of the most versatile pieces you could own. I’ve had mine (this one) for years and wear it season after season.

Trench Coat: There’s no question that Spring’s “IT” outerwear piece is the trench coat. Easy to throw on anything you are wearing while elevating your look, a good trench coat in a basic colour like camel is definitely a must!

White Tee: It doesn’t get more basic and versatile than a crisp white tee, period.

Sneakers: There’s no shortage of sneakers that are equal parts comfy and stylish and if you’re looking for some great options here are five that I love: one, two, three, four and five.

Utility Jacket: A good utility jacket can be styled a ton of different ways. Whether you keep it simple by pairing it with skinny jeans, a tee and sneakers, or look for some contrast by throwing it over a feminine dress or blouse, the utility jacket in a military green colour is one closet staple that should not be overlooked. I own this one from Madewell (the lining makes it perfect for those first Spring days when it’s still chilly) but there’s also this version.

Loafers: This stylish minimal shoe can easily be worn with a variety of outfits for many different occasions. The most popular loafers right now are these from Sam Edelman. They come in a ton of different colours and they are hands down the most comfortable loafers I’ve worn.

Skinny Jeans: You should always have a good pair of trusty jeans that look amazing with anything and that can take you from day to night with just a swap of shoes and accessories. My three favourite brands of jeans are Madewell (I particularly love their 9″ high rise jeans), Citizens of Humanity, and Levi’s.

Novelty Blouse: Nothing screams Spring like a good floral top!

White Dress: Pair it with sandals and a blazer for dressy occasions or with a denim jacket and sneakers for low key weekends wandering around town.

High-waist Cropped Jeans and Pants: I absolutely love their relaxed vibe and they are a great alternative to skinny jeans.

Eyelet Top: There’s nothing I love wearing more than eyelet tops during Spring and Summer. They are easy breezy and the perfect feminine piece to wear with just about anything in your wardrobe.

Blazer: My blazer collection has definitely grown in the last couple of years because to be honest I find them the perfect piece to wear both day and night. It’s hard to find a piece that can instantly elevate your look and give it a polished and sophisticated vibe like a blazer does.

Sandals: Of all the different sandal styles I’ll say that the single strap one is the most flattering one. If you own this style in black and brown and in two different heel heights, you are all set. Trust me.

Bodysuit: Bodysuits are something that have been trending lately and if you haven’t jumped on the trend I recommend giving them a try as they look great paired with jeans, pants or skirts.

Bandana: A perfect finishing touch!

Fanny Pack: Another trending item that is big right now. You can’t deny how practical (and stylish I have to admit) they are!

Sunglasses: Well, owning a good pair of sunglasses that suits your face shape is a no brainer. For affordable options Quay and Le Specs are great brands to consider.

Cross-Body Bag: Look for one that you can wear day and night! Here’s one that’s more affordable and looks great!

Jumpsuit: Here’s another item that has been going strong, anyone a fan? You can pair a jumpsuit with a blazer and heels for a night out or simply wear it with sneakers and a denim jacket wrapped around your waist for a more casual look. Here’s a solid black and floral option I really like!

Earrings: Even though I’m a fan of dainty jewelry, tortoise is having a moment so if you love it too, this is the moment to sport it!
